Santa Monica Beach may not be the cleanest beach in Southern California, but it is definitely the friendliest one, you don't need to be a local resident to enjoy it, people come here from all over the world.
I call it the center of all beaches, with its beautiful pier, long bike path, which is starts from will roger state beach in pacific palisades area, it continues southbound along the beach and end up in south of venice beach.
You can walk or ride a bike to venice in south or pacific palisades in north, you have a great view of hills and mountains in north and palos verdes and catalina island in south.
Santa Monica is also one of the safest beach for swimmers and surfers, if there is people in the water, there is lifeguards.
You have all the great restaurants on the pier with all those fun rides for your childrens, you can start up your day by fishing at the edge of the pier, on the side of the pier you see all this gymnastic bars and volleyball fields.
Santa Monica sunset is the most beautiful of all, it's every photographers dream place, when all those lights on the pier reflecting on the shore, where every single bride in California wants to have at least one picture from there, the sun is long gone but nobody wants to go home yet.
